Hi,
My car is a 2007 Vibe (base model) 3dr which has no factory door speakers just the dash 4's. I'm looking for anybody who has fitted speakers to their doors and what method they used (door builds?) not the later (after 2012) models with 6.5' speakers mounted to door cards?
Cheers.
John

I don't know if it is any help or not but putting speakers in the rear shelf probably involves less surgery than putting them in the doors.

Thanks for reply. Got a Helix sealed 12' sub in a factory box to go in boot for bass duties.
Not keen on rear speakers tbh I'd prefer to fit speakers in the front doors even if its a lot more work.

I fitted some Kenwood KFC-1761S speakers (16.5cm) to front doors of our 2008 Urban few years back. The important thing is the depth of the speaker, think I read somewhere that max depth is 50mm to prevent window glass fouling, these speakers are 45mm.
No fancy door build for me, mine just sit in the door pocket towards front of door, think it same position the Aygo of our vintage had it's front door speakers. The door card needs cutting, but handily the hole in the door metal is already cut, so no metal cutting required. Feeding the wires through the door grommet was also fairly easy. Incase you are interested, I also used some old food containers in the door hole to protect the rear of the speaker from water etc. Fairly easy to do, most of my time was taken measuring, measuring and measuring again the door cards, to make sure I cut in the right place, to prevent a horlicks moment!

Just a thought - later cars came with speakers fitted in the doors (mine did) but they are further forward than most people seem to fit their speakers. You can see mine in this pic:
If the door metal already has a suitable gap, would getting hold of some OEM door cards from a scrappy or something be a suitable way forward? It was certainly an easy job for me to take the OEM speakers off my door cards and replace them with after market ones. Mind you, my door cards are black. I don't know if that applies to all models with OEM fitted speakers.

Thanks fellas.
Yes door cards with speakers/grilles are from 2012 onwards and only available in black. My cards/dash are light grey so would require swapping out everything. Manual windows too cause a headache also.
I measured 25mm between glass when down and inner skin plus about 20mm gap between inner skin & back of door card.
My Hybrid Audio Unity U6 midbases are 69mm deep though
Expensive mistake cutting sealing sheet to find out depths £90 + £35 fitting for replacements from Citroen and now standing water in my drivers foot well when it rains heavy. Booked in next Sat to have them refit and hopefully door resealed.
Visiting an installer soon to hear his take on options that could be fabricated if not using door.
Bought pair of door harnesses for the rubber sections that go in between the car body and the doors to allow decent gauge speaker cable to be through.
3' mids and 1' tweeters will play 200hz up and sub will play 50hz down (24db slopes) just need a solution for 50-200hz midbass region. Thought about a pair of underseat subs but discounted them now as to much of a compromise imo.

As you say manual window winders could be an issue, as surround/grills on mine do stick out a bit, I got leccy windows so not an issue. Good point about door skin seal, that's why I luckily found a plastic food tray just right size to fit the hole and silicone sealed it in to keep water tight.
Good luck with your install, sure installer will come up with a few variations, there always loads options when it comes to ICE installs.

For what it's worth, the door sealing sheet and the undelay rolls for laminate flooring are made of very similar material. I've seen the underlay used to fabricate replacements seal sheets. Gaffer tape / duct tape was used to hold it in place. Looked pretty effective and pretty weather resistant to me.
I haven't done a full replacement with that myself but I have used it for repairs. The good thing about the underlay stuff is that it's cheap. A few £ from B&Q or Amazon and you've got metres of it. e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acoustic-White . B00A8K20ZA Useful for other things too, including putting under laminate, I guess.
